Use of Battery- vs. Petrol-Powered Chainsaws in Forestry: Comparing Performances on Cutting Time

The use of battery tools is very common in many fields work. In fact, the electric engine and batteries have several advantages over traditional endothermic engines, including low emissions, terms pollutants, vibration noise. this context, chainsaw market started producing models powered by batteries. These machines can be useful forestry, but information on their performance scarce. aim work was to compare performance, cutting times, three Stihl models: MS 220C-B (battery powered), 201 C-M 261 (both petrol powered). study carried out five different wood species, also taking into consideration presence/absence defects cutting. More than 800 cuts 15 m × cm beams were video recorded, times later obtained a resolution 4/100 sec, using video-editing software. results showed poorer chainsaws, especially certain species. However, difference has been reduced when compared with older models. conclusion, chainsaws need some additional improvements introduced high potential evident.
